Help us reach our goal of $5000

his legacy, Our mission

The Devin Moore Heart Foundation, Inc. was formed to increase public awareness of sudden cardiac arrest in youth and young adults; support education and training on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to prevent sudden cardiac death; sponsor cardiac screenings to improve the diagnosis and detection of cardiac abnormalities, and to educate the public about risk factors for sudden cardiac death.

How we plan to make a difference

  • Education & Awareness
  • CPR/AED Training
  • AED Donations to local schools/youth athletic programs
  • Heart Screenings
  • Sharing Devin’s Story

WHAT IS SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST (SCA)?

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating due to malfunction or disruption of the heart’s electrical system.  When this happens, the heart no longer pumps blood to the brain and other vital organs.  This usually results in death, unless a person receives treatment within minutes.

SCA typically occurs with no warning and without immediate intervention or treatment can lead to death.  Giving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), or giving chest compressions can improve a person’s chance of survival.

What are the signs & symptoms of SCA:

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest discomfort
  • Weakness
  • Palpitations
  • Sudden collapse
  • No pulse
  • No breathing

HOW CAN SCA BE PREVENTED?

Screening often includes an Electrocardiograms (EKG), Echocardiograms, and a review of family history.  Your Primary Care Physician or pediatrician may refer you to a Cardiologist.

  • Talk with your healthcare provider about diagnostic testing as part of a complete heart risk assessment.
  • Heart screening
    • Electrocardiograms (EKG), Echocardiograms, and a review of family history.
    • Locate free or affordable screenings in your school district or community.

Responding to SCA

  • We may not be able to prevent SCA, however, it is important we know how to respond.
  • CPR & AED Preparedness:
    • Early Defibrillation is key to survival as mortality increases by 10-12% with each minute between collapse and AED.
